Ricardo’s relatives started protesting.

“This is insane!”

“We drove five hours!”

“This is humiliating!”

Ricardo was furious.

“This is your fault!” he shouted at me.

I met his gaze calmly.

“No. This is the consequence of your actions.”

His mother stepped forward.

“What a cruel woman!”

I smiled.

“Interesting. Twenty minutes ago I was the parasite.”

She fell silent.

One by one they packed their things.

Suitcases.
Bags.
Coolers.
Shoes.

Within fifteen minutes, fifteen people walked out of my house with angry faces.

Ricardo was the last.

He stopped in front of me.

“This isn’t over.”

I tilted my head.

“You’re right.”

His arrogant grin returned.

“Oh really?”

“Yes.”

I showed him my phone.
“Your family damaged several items in the house. My lawyer is already preparing a damage claim.”

His smile vanished.

“What?”

“The carpets are stained, two crystal glasses are broken, and someone scratched the dining table.”

Captain Morales added calmly,

“Everything has been documented.”

Ricardo looked like he might explode.

But he couldn’t do anything.

Finally, he left.

The vans drove away down the sandy road.

Silence returned.

Captain Morales turned to me.

“Do you need anything else, Mrs. Cruz?”

“No, Captain. Thank you for coming so quickly.”

“That’s what we’re here for.”

They left.

The house became quiet again.

I stepped inside slowly.

The smell of beer and food still lingered in the air.
